It was the American cyclist's last chance to retain his 2006 Tour de France title. (June 30)[Notes:ap photos] Floyd Landis has lost his final chance to be the winner of the 2006 Tour De France -- [Notes:file pool courtroom video]After hours of testimony -- the Court of Arbitration for Sport, or C-A-S, upheld a previous ruling that Landis used performance enhancing drugs. [Notes:ap photos] Landis was stripped of his 2006 Tour title last year after testing positive for a banned type of testosterone.SOT: landis "it's consumed my entire life ... " Oscar Pereiro was declared (pehr-EHR'-oh) the 2006 Tour winner. [Notes:handout tour de france video]Landis is now the first cyclist in the history of the tour to loose his title due to doping. [Notes:screen grab of CAS website] In its 58-page decision, the CAS said the lab that analyzed Landis' test results used some quote 'less than ideal practices' -- but not lies, fraud and cover-ups and Landis had claimed. Even if Landis had won his appeal, there was no guarantee Tour de France organizers would recognize today's decision. [Notes:ap photos]Part of the fallout from the ruling -- Landis now has to pay 100-thousand dollars toward the legal fees of the U.S. Anti-doping agency.
