SoCalAnglophile- hey, yes id also love to see San Francisco- in Europe its got a very good image and I understand its one of the safest big cities in the US. Is Mayor Newsom still popular?

NorthShorePerson; thanks- ive also heard Chicago has been called 'the most politicised city in America' (apart from DC of course) Both senators Obama and Clinton are Chicagoans. From an outsiders perspective, it seems LA would be the popular culture capital. Where NYC and Chicago build up, it seems LA sprawls out. The only big US city ive visited is Baltimore; hopefully in the future i'll see more. Cheers

(I like LA)
NY has very good weather for an east coast city.
NY has Fairfield County, the Upper East Side, and Northern NJ.
New York has beautiful beaches on the NJ Coast and CT.
NY is where sports began.
LA and Chicago actually have sections of town that are more expensive than anywhere in Manhattan. RITZ CARLTON Chicago is the most expensive residential building in the US. The Sierra Towers is the 3rd most expensive residential building in the world.
LA is less crowded than CHI and NY

Chicago is generally considered to be the second city. Los Angeles is the second largest and some may argue more influential, but Chicago has much more influence on the corporate stage.

The triple rivalry in the US between NYC, Los Angeles and Chicago is interesting. In the UK there is a friendly rivalry between Birmingham and Manchester for 'the second city' label. Birmingham with 1.2 million has about twice the population of Manchester but a recent survey found that strangely more people see Manchester as the second city. Is this 'second city' debate also the case with LA and Chicago? I know Chicago has been called this but Los Angeles is more populous.

4stemcellresearch- thanks for replying. If you don't mind my asking, which of those cities do you live in?
I should let you know, when im referring to size, I mean population. My study found the 'City of Los Angeles' has about 4 million people (like Alexandria or Harbin)but the metropolitan area is among the top 15 in the world at over 15 million. In area though (Not population), I understand LA is bigger than NYC?

Hello CULAVE, I live in one of the incorporated cities in the L.A. area. We are independent of each other, we have separate police, fire and city services departments, it is easy to tell when you have crossed into other city, the street signs and numbers change and even the asphath on the roads is different. But the city itseft is still big, it is 472 square miles.

L.A. is an okay place to visit and has some great attractions but honestly, if I had to choose a city to settle in I'd rather go for San Francisco, it's got a great vibe, it's super clean and there is low crime. Even the barrio is super clean and safe! Great tacos there too.
